If you’re like me, the first dessert that comes to mind when you think of Italy is creamy, dreamy tiramisù. (Or gelato, but that’s the topic of another blog ?).
It’s easy to see why tiramisù has become so popular. Spongy Savoiardi ladyfinger biscuits, dipped in coffee and smothered in layers of creamy mascarpone and sprinkled with dark chocolate powder cannot be anything other than a recipe for success — unless you’re an absolute sociopath.
Lucky for you, Rome is packed with delicious places to enjoy tiramisù. And to make sure you get the best bang for your buck during your time in the Eternal City, we’ve written this short list of the best tiramisù in Rome.
Where to Eat Tiramisù in Rome
Just between us, you really can’t go wrong wherever you go in Rome. Over the five years I’ve lived here, I’ve never had a bad tiramisù. I’ve only had a tiramisù that doesn’t quite hit the spot, or has gone a little heavy on the coffee or the cacao.
Pretty much every Roman restaurant, trattoria, or osteria features tiramisù on its dessert menu, partly because it’s so popular and partly because it’s so easy. Most follow the standard recipe, though a few will add their own twist. But by far the best places to try tiramisù are specialist artisan dessert stores that do few recipes but do them exceptionally well.
1. Pompi
For our money, Pompi Bar does the best tiramisù in Rome. Free from preservatives or other additives, their classic tiramisù is a simple but succulent blend of Savoiardi biscuits, pasteurised eggs, mascarpone, sugar, coffee, cacao and delicious dark chocolate, and costs just €5 per portion.
Pompmi also does a range of alternative tiramisù types, including pistacchio, strawberry, caramel, and gluten-free tiramisù. Check out their menu, and try not to drool ?

The good news is that there are several stores to choose from. One is inside Termini station; another borders the walls of the Vatican City in the Prati district. We think that the Pompi on Via Albalonga, near the metro stop Re di Roma, slightly edges the others. But it’s a bit of a trek outside the city centre and, while smaller, the store near the Trevi Fountain is just as good and is a couple of minutes walk from the Spagna metro stop.

2. Rome with Chef
Nothing tastes as good as desserts you’ve made yourself, and traditional tiramisù is no exception. When in Rome, why not treat yourself to a Pasta & Tiramisù Class in which you learn to make creamy fettuccine alla carbonara and dreamy tiramisù!
The three-hour hands-on cooking class costs from just €79 per person and is consistently ranked among peoples’ favourite experiences in Rome (as you can see below)! Your professional local chef will welcome you and your fellow foodies with a glass or two of prosecco before starting a class that shares all the secrets of making authentic pasta and tiramisù.

3. Tiramisù Merisú
For tiramisù on the go in the medieval district of Trastevere, check out Tiramisù Merisú on the Via San Francesco a Ripa. This small dessert store is a little paradise for gluttons who are looking for a light version of tiramisù with no raw egg in the recipe. Here the egg is processed differently, baked into a cream that has been combined with mascarpone and other flavourings.

You’ll find plenty of freshly prepared customisable variations and a decent gluten-free range.
- Open: Daily 10 am – 12 am
- Address: Via di San Francesco a Ripa 29

4. Ristoro degli Angeli
Ristoro degli Angeli is the only restaurant on the list that does not specialise in tiramisù. And while choosing one restaurant for the best tiramisù in Rome among the city’s thousands is difficult, Ristoro degli Angeli is special.

We’ve already featured this Michelin-starred restaurant as one of the best pasta restaurants in Rome, and the quality of its food combined with its exceptionally reasonable price points really does make it stand out from the rest. Make sure to book as spaces are limited.
- Open: Mon-Fri 7:30pm-11:30pm; Sat 12:30pm-3pm, 7:30pm-11pm; Sun 12:30pm-3pm
